Biography and work of Lydia Cecil

Tutor Lydia Cecil graduated from LARA in the summer of 2019. After studying history at the University of Edinburgh, she found LARA provided the classical artistic training she was looking for. She was employed as the New Generation Festival resident painter in August 2019, and spent ten weeks as a resident artist at the Tiapapata Art Centre in Samoa.Lydia has exhibited solo at the Tiapapata Art Gallery, Samoa, and in two group exhibitions at the Brick Lane Gallery, London, in January 2020.

Training at LARA provided a firm foundation for both her portrait and animal commissions, and her personal work, which depends on direct observation of humans and nature.

"The fundamental skills you gain at LARA give you the opportunity to take your art in any direction."
