Lizet Dingemans

Biography and work of Lizet Dingemans

Lizet Dingemans grew up in Helmond, the Netherlands. After studying Art and Illustration in the Netherlands she went to Florence in the summer of 2011 to study Fine Art at Angel Academy which gave her the inspiration to continue her art career in London as a student at the London Atelier of Representational Art, where she studied for three years.

Lizet chose LARA because she had always wanted to create skill-based art. She wanted to make art that draws from hundreds of years of knowledge and skill, and yet still create something entirely modern. She preferred LARA above other like-minded art schools because of the great atmosphere and the variety in teachers. She comments that people are encouraged to explore their own style within the program and that, of course, London is a great location to start up an art career.

Lizet explains that the training at LARA is very rigorous and can sometimes be tedious but in her opinion is definitely worth it. In the art schools in Holland she was always unsure of what she was actually being taught. There, the focus is more on the creative process, but she believes that creativity is not something that can be taught. However, she feels that what you can teach is how to make something look like you intend it to, and that is exactly what the training at LARA is for. Lizet says, “I see so much modern art that could be so much more powerful if the maker had more of an idea of – for example – anatomy.  What I would take away from this training is exactly that. In the years coming I will be exploring my creativity a bit more, but always holding on to this-skill based approach as a foundation to whatever I will be doing in art.”

Lizet continues to live and work in London.
