Jon Gidlow

Biography and work of Jon Gidlow

Jon Gidlow has always considered himself to be artistic but chose to study applied science at the university of Leeds and this lead to a career in computing. Over the years he realised that there was an increasing pull toward the arts and in 2008 took time out to tour the galleries of Spain, seeing so many masterpieces in a relatively short space of time helped him to realise that he needed a change of direction to be able to concentrate on making art.

Finding that he the pictures he was drawn to and enjoyed making were mostly figurative he searched for schools that taught the skills required to advance his work to a professional level and subsequently enrolled on a short course at LARA. Being impressed by the standard of work produced at the end of this course he knew that moving to London and studying there would be the best way to acquire the technical skills he needed and went on to complete the full time course. Jon now works as a painter in London.

"The thing I appreciate most about my training at LARA is the freedom it has given me in my own work knowing that I have absorbed the fundamentals of drawing and painting."
