Biography and work of Irvin Rodriguez

While attending FIT, he studied simultaneously at the Grand Central Academy of Art, focused on academic drawing techniques. Irvin was a recipient of the 2016 Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant. In 2011, Irvin was the Golden Brush Award winner for the 27th L. Ron Hubbard’s Illustrators of the Future Contest. He has also been featured in various books and publications such as Lessons in Classical Drawing: Essential Techniques from Inside the Atelier by Juliette Aristides, Spectrum 17, Creative Quarterly, 3×3 and CMYK Magazine. He currently lives and works in Brooklyn. 

His practice is centered on painting, primarily figurative work that is grounded in reality. Painterly brushwork and moments of abstraction are utilised to convey his subjects and ideas. The work serves as a vehicle to explore the figure, nature, art history, race and identity.
