We’re looking forward to welcoming the recipients of the inaugural LARA Summer Scholarship Competition to Bristol and London this July!
We have been blown away by the quality of the applications we received. The talent, passion and commitment of these young people made choosing winners and runners-up very difficult. It’s so important that these artistic gifts are nurtured to become the best they possibly can be and we know the LARA Drawing and Painting Summer School will set the students off on the right track to fully develop their potential.
Huge congratulations to Matt Gooder and Charlotte Holmes for winning First Prize. Matt’s work displayed a natural facility for shape and an impressive understanding of form for a student yet to attend an atelier training. Matt will join the Bristol Summer School under the tutelage of Nicholas Chaundy. Charlotte’s passion for and commitment to drawing and painting, as evidenced in her broad-ranging and experimental portfolio, inspired the LARA Team to pull together to enable Charlotte to attend Easter School 2019 when circumstances precluded her from being able to attend the Summer School. We look forward to welcoming Charlotte to LARA London then and seeing her artwork develop in the meantime.

And well done also to our runners-up! Rosie Landon and Bertie MacSwiney will join us in our London studio while Alvina Leung will join us in our Bristol studio.
It’s fantastic to see that some applicants who were not successful this time have still decided to attend Summer School. Drawing and painting are all about practice and we commend this determined attitude.
Our next Scholarship Competition will be for a place on our Easter School | Introduction to Materials. Keep an eye on our website or social media for how to apply. And, of course, there’ll be another opportunity to apply to our Summer Scholarship Competition next year – do tell your friends!
