Charlie Pickard studied at LARA. He is now a figurative artist and teaches at LARA whilst continuing to seek new ideas and skills studying with figurative artists across the world. Pickard works primarily from life in oil using a ‘direct’ or ‘alla prima’ painting style, believing this approach allows for the most direct connection with his subject matter. Pickard has exhibited in several shows in the UK, and was recently awarded the De Laszlo Foundation’s Award for Excellence at the Royal Society of British Artists Annual Exhibition 2020.
Seated Nude was created in a direct all prima style. Through this, Pickard wanted to give expression to the “powerful, vibrant colours ever-present in the glow of flesh”.
This work was selected to show at LARA’s Graduating in Paint, an exhibition of artists working in innovative ways across the field of painting who have graduated from art schools across the UK.
