Charlie Hawksfield is a graduate from Goldsmiths (BA Social and Cultural Studies, MA in Culture Industry), University of Westminster (MA Creative Writing) and Charles Cecil Studios. With his multidisciplinary background, Hawksfield is interested in historical subjects and how to depict a cultural archetype symbolically and psychologically rather than simply representationally. Hawksfield has exhibited his work across the UK, and is currently the host and curator at Wells Projects in Battersea.
“Lady Hester Stanhope was a wealthy aristocratic woman who turned her back on Victorian society, travelled to the middle East and become a person of great influence in the region. This portrait engages with a historical character who took great risks and paid huge prices for her freedom.”
This work was selected to show at LARA’s Graduating in Paint, an exhibition of artists working in innovative ways across the field of painting who have graduated from art schools across the UK.
