Sara Lavelle is a graduate from Falmouth University (Foundation) and University of Brighton (BFA). Her work draws upon a fascination with human psychology and philosophy, focusing on portrait painting and figuration.
Lavelle has exhibited across the UK and internationally, including at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries. She has won awards including Hasting Art Forum Rising Talent Prize and was a finalist on Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year Award. Lavelle has also conducted notable commissions, including Dorothy Annie Elizabeth Garrod, archeologist and the first female professor at Cambridge University, and Clare Rutter, operatic soprano at Grange Park Opera.
This work – Interior – was selected to show at LARA’s Graduating in Paint, an exhibition of artists working in innovative ways across the field of painting who have graduated from art schools across the UK.
