Hector McLean is a graduate from New College Nottingham (Foundation) and Edinburgh College of Art (BA). In his work, McLean replicates the visual structure of digital media that we are so accustomed to in daily life, mimicking the aesthetics from TV gameshows to web pages. Working in paint decontextualised this imagery, pulling it into question and asking the viewer to reflect.
McLean has exhibited across the UK and internationally including at City Arts Centre in Edinburgh and The Biscuit Factory in Newcastle.
This work – Dorothea – was selected to show at LARA’s Graduating in Paint, an exhibition of artists working in innovative ways across the field of painting who have graduated from art schools across the UK.
