Raen Barnsley is a graduate from Gloucestershire University (BFA) and City & Guilds (MFA). Barnsley produces visual representations of how her dyslexia behaves when inundated with stimuli and information, creating physical manifestations of her experiences when processing written and verbal language. She is influenced by the possibilities of contemporary imaging software, hard-edged abstraction, and cartography’s subjective depictions of space. Barnsley’s works appear to be digital in origin, but this perception is altered when viewed at close range.
Barnsley has exhibited both nationally and internationally. She has won awards including the Leverhulme Scholarship for Postgraduate Study 2018 and was selected for the Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2017.
This work – Assemblage 3 – was selected to show at LARA’s Graduating in Paint, an exhibition of artists working in innovative ways across the field of painting who have graduated from art schools across the UK.
