Terms & conditions

What you need to know

Admission requirements:

  1. Applicants needs to be highly self motivated and are required to bring a portfolio of recent work for interview. Work should reveal drawing ability, together with evidence of intelligent and imaginative visual exploration. This work does not necessarily have to be confined to representational subject matter.
  2. The portfolio for review can be in the form of printed photographs or images on USB. If you are in the UK, you can bring your portfolio of original work to the School. Selection is usually based on the review of your portfolio work.
  3. You will then need to return the application form along with any requested evidence (overseas students), before the deadline given. We expect to be able to confirm eligibility within two weeks of receiving a completed application form.
  4. Applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.
  5. If you do not hold a UK/EU/EEA passport you will need a visa to travel to study in the UK. For information please see the Home Office website (www.ukvisas.gov.uk).

Acceptance Deposit:

  1. If the student does not take up the accepted place, the deposit is non-refundable.
  2. Once an enquiry is confirmed, new students will be sent an invoice on acceptance of their place. New entrants to the School will be required to pay a non-refundable deposit in order to secure their place, unless they opt to pay for the year's fees in full. The non-refundable deposit is £1,000 if you select to pay the fees on a termly basis. This deposit will be offset against the tuition fees. 
  3. If you do not pay the fees in accordance with these Terms you will not be entitled to start the course.

Payment of Fees for Full-Time Students:

  1. Payment of Fees guarantees your place
  2. If a full-time student who has paid for the term in full does not show up, we cannot guarantee that their place will still be available 4 weeks after the start of term. 
  3. If you select to pay the fees on a termly basis, a non-refundable deposit of £1,000 is to be paid upon registration for the next term. The outstanding balance is to be paid by the required date, 4 weeks before the start of term. Your place is at risk if you do not pay the fees on time.

Payment in advance:

  1. Payment must be made by the required deadline, in advance of the course, by cheque, credit card, debit card or BACS electronic transfer. For details on electronic payment, please call the office on +44 (0) 207 738 8884.

Pre-paid (Composition) Fees Scheme:

  1. The School operates a Pre-paid (Composition) Fees Scheme, by which students can pay a lump sum in advance for the School fees (miminum two years), thereby receiving a discount. A quote can be obtained from the Director.

Methods of Payment:

  1. Credit Card Payment - if you are looking to pay by credit card please note that the following credit card charges will apply
    • Visa, JCB, MasterCard and Maestro - 3%
    • Amex - 5%
  2. There are no payments on charges with debit cards.
  3. Bank Transfer Payment - If you wish to pay by bank transfer, banker's draft or a payment sent for collection. There will be an additional charge of £30 to cover international bank charges, please ensure you provide a transaction reference number.

  5. Cheques to be made payable to London Atelier of Representational Art, and sent to the LARA postal address. Please include the course reference number and your name on the back of the cheque (if applicable).
  6. All Fees are payable in GBP.
  7. LARA will not be responsible for any losses you suffer as a result of currency exchange fluctuations or exchanges.

Increase of Fees:

  1. The School will give students one term's notice of fees increases; however, under some circumstances it may be necessary to review fees at other times. Should a student wish to withdraw from a course as a result of such an increase, a term's notice must still be given.
  2. All fees are subject to an annual increase by an amount up to the November RPI rate (published December).  We will notify you of this increase, with a term's notice.  The increase will then be implemented on all fees for the following Term 2.  If the November RPI Rate is negative, there will be no change to fees in the relevant year. 

Overdue Fees:

  1. A surcharge will be made on accounts not received by the first day of each term. The current rate of surcharge is Bank Base Rate plus 4%.
  2. We will also recover any administrative fees associated with any debt and pass on the costs of any debt recovery agents that we may instruct.
  3. If your employer or organisation is paying the Fees and wishes to be invoiced, please write to us on their headed paper and send a company purchase order with your Application.
  4. All course fees include associated course notes and other course materials. Accommodation is not included.
  5. LARA cannot be held responsible for any loss incurred as a result of course cancellation including hotel and flight charges.
  6. Accepted applications will be acknowledged via email and joining instructions will be sent prior to the start of the course.

Notice of Withdrawal:

  1. Unless otherwise stated, once a student has registered, there will be no refund of the course fee for cancellations received. Cancellations must be sent in writing to info@drawpaintsculpt.com

Payment of Fees:

  1. In this instance Short Courses are defined as: Masterclasses, Workshops, Weekend Courses, Easter and Summer Schools. Unless otherwise stated, there will be no refund of the course fee for cancellations received within ten working days of the course start date. For all other cancellations, the course fee will be refunded, less an administration fee of £45. Cancellations must be sent in writing to info@drawpaintsculpt.com
  2. No shows, failure to arrive or postponement incurs charges in full from the booking date, and payment is non-refundable and non-transferrable.
  3. Any period of absence during the term, whatever the motive or duration, will not be refunded.
  4. In the event of a public transport strike/closure, or other conditions beyond our control, a session may have to be closed early or cancelled. As we will have to incur full costs for these classes, we are unable to offer a refund but will attempt to reschedule. If a tutor (and model where appropriate) are present, the class is considered to be running.
  5. LARA reserves the right to make appropriate changes to the course timetable and content, or to cancel a course due to circumstances beyond its control. Liability shall be limited to the refund of fees paid in this instance.
  6. LARA will try to ensure the hiring of professional models with a proven track record. LARA cannot be held responsible for the non-attendance or poor performance of a model, but will do everything in its power to remedy any problems which occur. In the case of model illness, we will attempt to reschedule the class as it is not possible to substitute with another model during most courses.
  7. In the case of staff illness/absence, we will attempt to find a substitute tutor. If this is not possible, the class will be postponed and we will attempt to contact you in good time to make you aware of the postponement. We will aim to reschedule the class to a date suiting most of the students or the missed hours may be added to the remaining sessions.
  8. All intellectual property rights in material supplied on courses are subject to copyright and are owned by LARA and/or collaborating institutions. Therefore any duplication in whole or in part is strictly prohibited. Courses are not to be recorded in any way without the prior written consent of LARA.
  9. LARA expects students to behave in a polite and appropriate manner and adhere to LARA studio rules and student charter when attending courses.
  10. We cannot guarantee that your cast spot will not be moved over the holiday period. Therefore you are responsible for marking your cast spot, easel, shadow shape and plumbline so you can set up your cast spot again, as and when necessary. Record your set-up by taking a photo. Please ask a tutor for guidance on this.  
  11. We do not store students' art works. They may get damaged or lost if left in the studio over the holiday period.
  12. LARA reserves the right to exclude students or abandon the course in the event of disruptive, abusive or threatening behaviour by an individual or group of delegates. In such an event, no refund will be payable to the excluded student.
  13. All disputes between the School and the Student will be settled in accordance with the School's Complaints and Disciplinary procedures (a copy of which can be obtained from the Student Guide page on the website).
  14. All students are expected to supply or purchase their own equipment and materials.
  15. If you do not hold a UK/EU/EEA passport you will need a visa to travel to study in the UK. For information please see the Home Office website (www.ukvisas.gov.uk).
  16. It is your responsibility to determine how far in advance you need to apply for a visa, and to allow sufficient time to obtain a visa. All Students agree to maintain an immigration status that entitles them to undertake the Course. We will not allow you to join the Course if you do not have a visa that allows you to study and you must present your passport and your visa to the Office before the start of the Course.
  17. Students agree to attend classes for the Courses regularly and on time. Non-attendance at classes due for reasons other than our default does not entitle you to refunds, extra tuition or a transfer.
  18. If, for reasons outside your reasonable control (such as illness) you miss classes, we will use our reasonable endeavours to offer you additional support.
  19. A Certificate of Attendance will be issued to you in the name specified in your Application Form, if you have attended at least 80% of the sessions of the Course.
  20. We only issue Certificates of Attendance and not certificates of a particular grade, qualifications or standard.
  21. Certificates of Attendance will usually be issued in person. If you require your Certificate of Attendance to be posted, you will be required to provide a stamped addressed envelope.
  22. If you lose your Certificate of Attendance, replacements can be provided up to one year from completion of the Course, subject to you paying an administrative charge of £25.
  23. All courses are taught in English. We suggest that the Students have a level of spoken and written English sufficient to participate in the Course (by way of guideline if English is not your first language, we would expect you to have an IELTS score of 4.5 for practical courses and 6.0 for lecture courses) in order to benefit fully.
  24. If you are travelling from overseas we may need to contact you in the two weeks prior to the Course starting. You must include your contact details in the UK when you submit your Application.
  25. Course places are allocated on a 'first-come, first-served' basis.
  26. The privacy policy about how we use your personal data forms part of these terms and conditions and by using our website you are therefore agreeing to the terms of our privacy policy.
  27. While on a short course or during Full Time or Part Time study we may ask to take images of you working within the School for promotional material. If you do not wish for this to happen please let us know.

Part-time - terms and conditions

  1. Priority is always given to Full Time students.
  2. Once a student has been accepted by the school on a part-time basis, on an agreed schedule, the schedule cannot be changed.
  3. If a part-time student who has paid for the term in full does not attend, we cannot guarantee that their place will still be available 4 weeks after the start of term.
  4. Any period of absence during the term, whatever the motive or duration, will not be refunded.
  5. There is no option to change or reschedule missed days.
  6. Any deposit paid is non-refundable.
  7. Your place is not guaranteed if you do not pay the outstanding balance on time.
  8. Unless otherwise stated, there will be no refund of the course fee for cancellations received.  Cancellations must be sent in writing to info@drawpaintsculpt.com
  9. As a part-timer you may be required to share a cast spot/figure room spot with another part-timer.  Therefore you are responsible for marking your cast spot, easel, shadow shape and plumbline so you can set up your cast spot again, as and when necessary.  Please ask a tutor for guidance on this.
  10. As a part-timer, it is likely you will be sharing your figure room spot with another part-timer.  Please wait for the tutor to assign you a spot.  Check the wall plan to see who you are sharing the spot with.  Please do NOT assume that if a spot in the figure room appears free, you can take it.
  11. Please do not ask other students to reserve a space for you on the Monday.
  12. We cannot guarantee that your cast spot will not be moved over the holiday period.
  13. We do not store students' art works.  They may get damaged or lost if left in the studio over the holiday period. 
  14. Within the full time course we do our best to provide two tutors- if a tutor is unwell we will do our best to find a replacement however this may not always be possible at short notice.

Group Bookings - Terms and Conditions

  1. When an enquiry is received, LARA will send a quotation within 48 hours. An acceptance and confirmation of the quotation must be received within 2 weeks. Failure to do so may cause the original offer/quote and its conditions to lapse or change.

Group Payment Terms:

  1. Once an enquiry is confirmed, you are required to pay 50% of the total invoice at time of confirmation enabling us to reserve places. The balance of 50% is expected to be paid 4 weeks prior to the arrival date.

Group Cancellation Terms:

  1. More than 30 days notice - full refund, less £100 administration fee
  2. 30-14 days - 50% payment refundable
  3. Less than 14 days notice - Fully non-refundable

Group Complaints

  1. In case of any complaint within reason, every effort will be made to resolve the complaint. Notice may be waived in an emergency.
  2. We will use the personal information you provide to us to provide the Services: process your payment for the Fees; and inform you about similar products or services that we provide. We will not give your personal data to any other third party.

Limitations of Liability

  1. Under no circumstances shall LARA be held responsible for any harmful act or default by its servants or agents unless such actual default is reasonably foreseeable and avoidable by the exercise of due care on behalf of LARA as its employer; nor in any event shall LARA be held responsible for any loss sustained by the clients or its nominees due to burglary, theft, fire or any cause except in so far as such loss is solely attributable to negligence of LARA's servants or agents acting within the course of their employment.
  2. Programmes, website and advertising are correct at time of going to press, however, alterations may occasionally be necessary due to circumstances beyond our control.
  3. Views expressed by the tutors are their own. LARA disclaims liability for advice given or views expressed by any tutors within the delivery of courses or in any notes or documentation provided to students.
