about London | Portrait Drawing Masterclass
During the five day course, the students will learn and apply the fundamental principles of representational drawing and various charcoal application techniques, creating a finished portrait drawing from scratch. The course will also familiarise students with the sight-size method as an efficient way of measuring and assessing one’s work.
This course would work very well as an basic introduction to portraiture, if you are considering doing a Portrait Painting Masterclass at a later stage.
A minimum number of 5 students is required for this short course to run.
The course will address:
- Proportions of the head and face
- Value and tones
- Using the Sight-Size method
- Drawing techniques
- Recreating the effect of light on paper
Each class is limited to 8 students working from 2 models in Sight-Size. The workshop room is located within the main school of The London Atelier of Representational Art. Each model is lit with individual professional photographic lighting, which provides a steady, unchanging environment from which to observe all elements of portrait drawing.
The End Result
You will have created a carefully observed and realistic portrait from life. You will be familiar with the fundamentals of portrait drawing. These are transferable skills which you will be able to apply to your personal work.
Please note that specific materials are required for this course. You will receive a complete list on application.
After struggling to find the classical training she craved in a highly conceptualised educational environment, Sofia found the London Atelier of Representational Art. She went on to study at LARA for four years and also for a short time in Florence after receiving an international scholarship. She now teaches part time at LARA while producing her own paintings and taking on commissions.
