    Course information

This evening Cast Drawing Masterclass aims to introduce students to the methods of sight size cast drawing in pencil. Using a sight size set up and methods taught on the full time course, students will create a competent reproduction of a cast of their choice. Students will be guided through the process of drawing from the cast from start to finish including set up and lighting advice so that they may recreate a similar arrangement at a later date.

Given the unique advantage of retaining their cast spot throughout the term, students are enabled in experiencing the value of studying a prolonged observational drawing. The curriculum criteria follows the full time course and students are given continual critiques and feedback about improvements to take into further work outside of the school.

    The course will address

    • Learning accurate measurement, using sight-size and comparative measurements
    • Use of tonal value in order to create the impression of form and light
    • Correct use of medium

Working for 2.5 hours every Thursday evening under professional photographic lights allows for careful, unchanging observation of the cast. Limited to 12 students, this is a wonderful opportunity for close instruction under a professional tutor. The cast room is located within the main school of Lara, allowing for the use of the main facilities of the full time school.

The full list will be sent to you on application.

    End result

Each student leaves with a carefully observed cast drawing in pencil. In addition to the completed works, each student will receive tailored advice for further study, specific areas to work on, as well as learning methods and techniques to use on future drawings and correct use of materials.

No prior experience needed. Those who have completed previous cast masterclasses with us are welcome to work in charcoal.
