LARA alumni excel at Royal Society of British Artists Annual Exhibition
LARA is delighted to congratulate Andrew Hitchcock on winning the Gordon Hulson Memorial Prize for his painting ‘A Picture of Stillness’
For almost two hundred years the RBA has been championing the highest standards of skill, concept and draughtsmanship in painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing. This year’s Annual Exhibition was the Society’s 300th. LARA is thrilled to congratulate Andrew Hitchcock on winning the Gordon Hulson Memorial Prize for his painting ‘A Picture of Stillness.’ On the same evening, LARA tutor and alumna Sofia Welch’s painting ‘Abalone’ was ‘Highly Commended’ by the Philip de Laszlo Foundation Prize judges. Alumnus Lewis Hazelwood-Horner received the same accolade, with three paintings in the exhibition, and was awarded membership to the RBA.

LARA is delighted to see its alumni have such presence at the RBA Annual Exhibition. In previous years LARA students have had considerable success through the open submissions. LARA alumni Lewis Hazelwood-Horner and Tom Greenwood both won the Rome Scholarship opportunity (2011 and 2014) which offers a four week residency at Sala Uno, a highly prestigious gallery and international arts centre in the heart of Rome. Last year Sofia Welch was the recipient of the Michael Harding Award for her drawing ‘Joachim’. We hope their successes inspire current and future students to apply!
