LARA london | From Vauxhall to Clapham North

31-Jul-2017

Relief and excitement abound after long struggle for new space

Walls coming down in Vauxhall; light streaming in in Clapham North

LARA is delighted to announce our new London location: Clapham North! After a difficult period of great uncertainty, we are so happy to be able to share the good news! The new studio will open on the 2nd of October for full-time, part-time and short courses.

This move is particularly special as it is something of a homecoming for LARA. Back in 2008, our first London studio was also in Clapham North, at a location just five minutes from our new space. We found Clapham North to be a gem of a place: it boasts many coffee shops, bars and restaurants and is only a short walk away from both Clapham Picturehouse cinema and the vast green space of Clapham Common.

Moving in day!

Come October, the new studio will have a figure room, cast room, workshop room, lockers, tea and coffee making facilities and an office. As you can see from the photos, there is substantial work to be done in the space to make it ready; Friends of LARA are setting up a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for the refit. We will have lots of fantastic rewards to thank our donors, from portraits to colour workshops, so do keep an eye on our newsletters and social media channels for our Crowdfunder announcement!

We welcome you to visit the school in its new Clapham North location, by appointment, during the refit. And we are so excited to see you all back soon drawing, painting and sculpting in what we know will be a beautiful new place for our students to develop as artists.
