Introduction to Life Drawing
Every Monday & Thursday 18:45 to 21:00 (model sits from 19:00)
Working from the model in a sustained pose over 10 weeks, students will learn the fundamentals of ’sight size’ technique in the context of line and mass drawing and, ultimately, in painting. The teaching structure is basically the same as for the daytime figure courses, and we offer the unique advantage of students retaining their own spot every week, enabling everyone to experience the value of studying a prolonged pose.

Portrait Sculpture
(Clay, armature and some tools are provided, we recommend you buy your own tools which can be purchased through LARA or alternative suppliers. Please view the material list)
Every Tuesday 18:45 to 21:00
from the model in a sustained pose over 10 weeks, we set up the model in the same way as for drawing and painting, and the initial sense of the pose is established by standing back and comparing what one is making with what one is seeing - to scale - and making adjustments accordingly. We then work using calipers for measurements, and also apply matchsticks to physically mark fundamental points of reference that one can then trust.
The emphasis is on the silhouette as created by the contour or outline of the portrait and, to bring this out, the model is set against a white background for ultimate contrast
