A technique using ink, usually diluted with water, applied with a brush. Although drawings can be made with wash alone, it is more often used in conjunction with line or contour drawings in pen and ink to depict areas of light and shade. (Andrea Boscoli, Christ in the Temple; Giovanni Battista Tiepolo: Rest on the Flight into Egypt). The term also applies to a drawing made using this technique.
